Meet Sarah

Almost every one I meet asks how I became a photographer. The simple answer is that I do what I love: capture memories. My littlest sister would let me dress her up and take her photos when I was 11. I convinced my best friend, in high school, to let me take photos of her dancing in the middle of Downtown Washington streets. I bought my first digital camera to try to encapsulate my amazing trip to Sydney, Australia, where I volunteered for the 2000 Olympics. The festivities, the people, the gorgeous beaches…I wanted to remember it all! For that reason, I love photography. I love being able to freeze time and have those memories forever.

My drive for photography took a dramatic turn after the birth of my daughter in 2005. I had a strange reaction to the epidural, and I can not remember the entire week before she was born, nor the week after. Everything, every detail I remember was recreated from the photos that my husband and I took. Honestly, it scared me. What would life be like if I couldn’t remember my own child: their tiny little fingers and fuzzy skin, first giggles and wobbly first steps? I had to make sure I had all those moments forever.

Taking my own family photos turned into my friends and their families photos, and so on and so on. For the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of running my own small business and creating lifelong memories for my clients. It’s the best job in the world! I get to do what I love, geek-out with camera gear, and meet some of the best people in the world.
